How to be Happy in Year 2012 - 10 simple ways :)

1. Practice mindfulness. Be in the moment. Instead of worrying about your checkup tomorrow while you have dinner with your family, focus on the here and now — the food, the company, the conversation.
2. Laugh out loud. Just anticipating a happy, funny event can raise levels of endorphins and other pleasure-inducing hormones and lower production of stress hormones. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, tested 16 men who all agreed they thought a certain videotape was funny. Half were told three days in advance they would watch it. They started experiencing biological changes right away. When they actually watched the video, their levels of stress hormones dropped significantly, while their endorphin levels rose 27 percent and their growth hormone levels (indicating benefit to the immune system) rose 87 percent.
3. Go to sleep. We have become a nation of sleep-deprived citizens. Taking a daily nap or getting into bed at 8 p.m. one night with a good book — and turning the light out an hour later — can do more for your mood and outlook on life than any number of bubble baths or massages.
4. Hum along. Music soothes more than the savage beast. Studies find music activates parts of the brain that produce happiness — the same parts activated by food or sex. It’s also relaxing. In one study older adults who listened to their choice of music during outpatient eye surgery had significantly lower heart rates, blood pressure, and cardiac workload (that is, their heart didn’t have to work as hard) as those who had silent surgery.
5. Declutter. It’s nearly impossible to meditate, breathe deeply, or simply relax when every surface is covered with papers and bills and magazines, your cabinets bulge, and you haven’t balanced your checkbook in six months. Plus, the repetitive nature of certain cleaning tasks — such as sweeping, wiping, and scrubbing — can be meditative in and of itself if you focus on what you’re doing.
6. Just say no. Eliminate activities that aren’t necessary and that you don’t enjoy. If there are enough people already to handle the church bazaar and you’re feeling stressed by the thought of running the committee for yet another year, step down and let someone else handle things.
7. Make a list. There’s nothing like writing down your tasks to help you organize your thoughts and calm your anxiety. Checking off each item provides a great sense of fulfillment.
8. Do one thing at a time. Edward Suarez, Ph.D., associate professor of medical psychology at Duke, found that people who multitask are more likely to have high blood pressure. Take that finding to heart. Instead of talking on the phone while you fold laundry or clean the kitchen, sit down in a comfortable chair and turn your entire attention over to the conversation. Instead of checking e-mail as you work on other projects, turn off your e-mail function until you finish the report you’re writing. This is similar to the concept of mindfulness.
9. Garden. Not only will the fresh air and exercise provide their own stress reduction and feeling of well-being, but the sense of accomplishment that comes from clearing a weedy patch, watching seeds turn into flowers, or pruning out dead wood will last for hours, if not days.
10. Tune out the news. For one week go without reading the newspaper, watching the news, or scanning the headlines online. Instead, take a vacation from the misery we’re exposed to every day via the media and use that time for a walk, a meditation session, or to write in your journal.

Rules for taking Resolutions!

If you have planned to take resolutions for the year 2012, STOP! Think Again. Why is that we tend to live the way we like the entire year and then decide to put the burden of getting it all right on the last day of the year?

To evolve as a Human Being is a continuous process. Everyday we learn something new. Goodness is spread all around us in various forms. It just takes a keen eye and an alert mind to adopt good things to live better.  But the convenience of having a DAY to take resolutions makes our job easy. So we just don't care what we are today by thinking about changing ourselves with some self-made promises on a special-day. But still, if you are adamant, then let's point out some rules of taking resolutions this New Year:

- Make a list of your promises.
- Read it out loud to your near and dear ones.
- Analyse them intensely and think about their good impact in your life.
- Don't hesitate to start following them from day1 (The New Year Dawn).
- Keep in mind that resolutions are not just for JANUARY month, they are for the entire year and also for many years to come.
- Don't be lenient. Follow them strictly.
- Ask you friends and family to support you in following them without fail.
- Encourage yourself to take up the challenge of changing yourself.
- Take the whole thing positively, after all its goodness that you have decided to adopt and spread in other's lives.
- Don't force those resolutions on yourself. Make promises only if you can live up to them.
- Feel happy about it!

From Another Blog!

Mr. Chintan Patel recently posted a pretty good article about MyGrahak.com! Here's a look:

MyGrahak.com has opened its virtual doors, allowing Delhi and NCR residents to shop online for groceries.
According to the website, "E-retailing of food and groceries in India has not been attempted by anybody and thus MyGrahak is a pioneer here providing convenience and comfort for 'Time Poor and Money Rich' customers". I'll have to call bullshit on that claim, because a simple web search yields innumerable websites catering to the many metros of our country.

MyGrahak.com, however, is one of the very few online grocery shops that have their own delivery system in place and offers free delivery, no matter how small the order is. The press release even came with a handy comparison table underscoring the virtues of the website. Here it is, after having passed through my trusty bullshit detector:

Orders can be placed at any time, while delivery is promised within 48 hours through the website's own fleet of GPS-enabled vehicles. Just make sure you're at home, or you'll be in a world of doo-doo. Payment options include netbanking, credit cards, as well as cash-on-delivery. MyGrahak.com offers 10,000 different items for purchase, which is projected to expand to 35,000 items in the future. The e-grocery shop has a live chat service that's quick to respond.

At any rate, this sure beats being the designated driver every time your wife \ mom needs to restock the kitchen.

Give yourself a Raise!

No, the topic is not about how one should strive to get a raise at work, nor will this post chart out 10 ways to get a promotion. Rather, today we will talk about how to gift ourselves a self-acclaimed raise in life. If you are a working person, you can choose to extend your capabilities at work and plan to try out newer things. May be you are a financial advisor, but have you tried on taking guitar classes or for that matter, attending a creative workshop?

We often love sticking to our lifestyle, without wanting to give ourselves a raise. We neither take interest in working with a more competent attitude, nor do we approve of any change in our everyday living. Gradually, we succumb to the routine which we started with, never realizing the dullness that has crept in to our lives.

Deciding to take music classes, planning for yoga early in the morning or simply choosing to improve on self-behavior are some simplistic ways to give yourself a raise.

So, from today, plan something different, experience something new, explore new horizons, adhere to new norms and thus choose for yourself a vibrant life. Moreover it’s New Year time. So why not promise yourself happy and full-of-life days ahead as a resolution?

Do you agree?

Who doesn’t love surprises?

There is no one who doesn’t want to get surprised by someone. Be it a husband/wife craving for a delightful surprise from their spouses or your maid waiting to get a surprise hike. From bosses wanting to get surprised from their employees to staff eagerly awaiting a surprise bonus for all their hard-work, our minds simply doesn’t stop from expecting them.

There are also many other kinds of surprises that simply make you smile and cheer for the day. Getting a meal done by your spouse unexpectedly or your neighbor appearing from nowhere with dishes in hands to share with you is yet another simple yet sweet surprise. Getting a job through by your workers before the deadline, getting a pay-check right when you badly needed it and watch children behave obedient all of a sudden can simply leave you mesmerized and delighted for hours.

Send a gift, plan a surprise cruise for the family, recite a poem for someone special or simply do something which they never imagined you would do (in good sense, for sure). Why wait for special occasions when each day could be a celebration by bringing galore of surprises to your loved ones lives.

Share with us any surprise moment which you experienced or planned yourself for someone else.

Read the Vibes…stay alert!

How many of you are really, I mean really, able to get vibes, good or bad. How many of you get a chance to say, “yaaa, I used to get those vibes from him/her”. I am right now getting the vibe that most of you would answer in “NO”. But, just imagine how things would have been different if we could really do so. We could have prevented getting cheated by so-called friends. Our Moms would at the very first sight/smell/vibration/voice (the mode of getting vibes may differ, right???) would make the right decision of keeping/rejecting a maid (thus preventing ill incidents). The unemployed engineers would be in great demand as the candidate would just reject an inhuman/workaholic/boring/disgustful boss!!!!

No, no one on this earth can be a perfect ‘vibe reader’. It becomes even more difficult when all the chaos and worries that we carry heavy in our hearts prevents you from concentrating on such subtle and agile emotion – of reading vibes. The result is a superficial perception about things/people that leads to 99% chances of landing you in dismay!

You can also blame your restrained vibe-reading ability to many distractions around you. From over-crowded malls to engaging (& ever-changing) technology, life today is an every-day game. You don’t pay much heed to the long-term consequences but rather prefer concentrating on quick results (only to regret later). The point is to live life in its full charm, but watch your every step, each decision and every action. Just stay alert and study a situation before plunging into a result.

Happy Living!

Let's laugh at ourselves!

Life is not about "laughing at someone, but laughing with someone." We often make fun of people we come across in parks, on roads, in offices, in parties, etc. As child we loved laughing at the weakest colony kid, when in school, we mocked the habits of our classmates, as an adult, we chose more happening places to target people for our fun like parties and social gatherings. The things continued and now the favourite hot-spot for laughing and having fun is in our office.

The famous cartoonist, Mario Miranda, once pointed out saying that, "Most Indians have this habit of making fun of people and considering themselves as  the perfect being on earth." He is right to an extent as we have often noticed and analysed such situations giving way for enjoyment to the person on one side and breaking the confidence of the person on other side of the line.

Why not concentrate on our own habits and weaknesses? It may not only let you accept your short-comings in a constructive manner, but also save many others from becoming the victim of such embarrassing situations of being laughed at. Life throws at you various funny to serious situations. Choose them wisely and make sure that no one feels hurt in the process. Be the best critic of yourself first before pointing a finger at the one who is in a weaker position than you at a given point of time.

Let's together learn to laugh at ourselves or even better, laugh 'with' someone. Watsay?

Add me in your friend list....

Gone are the days when we used to say, "keep in touch" to our friends at the beginning of vacations or at the end of school or college or after spending vacations with cousins...But what we say now is, "Hey.. do send me invite or add me in your friend list."

And to an extent, the trend of social networking with friends and family has made you to see each other and be in touch (although superficially) with all of them. You no more need to make a phone call or wait for one, or even write a letter and post and then wait for a reply. Everything happens instantly - from posting comments to getting tagged and receiving feedback, its a small world indeed.  But somewhere, somehow, perhaps unknowingly, we have lost the very essence which a "relationship" should hold. The intensiveness, the care and the share has all lost its meaning on our way to this digitally inclined world.

Earlier we used to wait to meet our friends or relatives and it was indescribable when we actually met after a long gap. With the advent of Social Media we are virtually always in touch and so meeting in person doesn't excite much.

Anyways...keep in touch guys! :-D

Modes of celebrations…Choose yours.

Celebrations are private affairs. While some love to be among their loved ones or a bunch of friends to celebrate an occasion, other may prefer just their family to be around. From Birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, promotions to retirements, there are zillion reasons to celebrate life. We invite near and dear ones to be a part of the happiness blessed to you, only to get it multiplied by sharing it with others. We splurge, indulge and engage ourselves with goodies and eatables to make the occasion exciting and enthralling for everyone attending it.

But have you ever thought of taking it all a step ahead and celebrating with those who crave for happiness to creep into their lives? From old age homes to charity groups serving abandoned children and needy ones, one must always consider them before splurging without limits. Sharing a bit of your happiness with them will not only bring smiles to their faces but also give you unbound contentment of having done something good.

So, next time you are planning to rejoice upon something, take out time for those who are looking forward for a joyful life.  Share with us your thoughts on this and let’s explore more ways to extend smiles to others…

Perils of Urban Living...

Whenever we think of urban life...what comes to our mind is good career, better education, swanky malls, modern facilities, etc. But there is also a flip side of it, where urban lifestyle takes heavy toll on the health. More Urban people suffer from disorders like obesity, increased stress level, depression, etc. than their rural counterparts.

Perils of Urban life are attributed mostly to stressful and longer working hours which results in body burnout, lack of sleep, eating at odd hours (and that too fast food), etc. All this together combine to form a deadly combo for the bad health.

So, what’s the solution? It’s easy said than done to adopt means for a healthy life. So here are few tips which one can adopt to be a happy soul while living an urban life:
  1. Take small but frequent breaks from work.
  2. Never skip breakfast as it’s the most important meal of the day.
  3. Try to keep lunch/dinner time fix as far as possible.
  4. Spend quality time with family and friends on regular basis.
  5. Don’t bring office work to home.
  6. Follow simple methods of workouts like using stairs, parking your car slightly away from destination and walk to reach there, etc.
  7. And remember, work will always be there. So don’t just work. Play too.

Delhi…O…Delhi!!! – 100 yrs of restlessness…

To define Delhi, you should take a stand. And to take that stand, you should belong to it. And even if you belong to Delhi, you still would probably miss out what it really is.

Everyone wants a bit of Delhi for themselves. It’s said that, once you have given your 2 years to this state, chances are very less that you will settle down with any other state of the country, not even your home town. That doesn’t really mean that Delhi is fabulous. It’s instead full of chaos, restlessness, unstated future, and lots of commotion going on in everyone’s head.

From political dramas that constantly happen in the background to cultural ethos that gets displayed in every art street, Delhi is today a Prince with identity unknown. It gives you unbound leisure with its heritage sights, exotic malls, exciting nights and something that acts as topping to it all.

In 1947, Delhi underwent a metamorphosis when thousands of people left it for Pakistan and more than 4.5 lakh refugees arrived here from the other side of the border. The influx of refugees changed Delhi radically; its future growth, look and feel were largely decided by the shift in the city’s changing demography. (An excerpt from TOI, Delhi special edition)

Every community today has carved out a separate Delhi for itself. And so, today Delhi belongs to no one in particular. You can take this as a positive transition where you get to meet people from various backgrounds, explore different cultures and experience million hues spread across the country all at one place.

In nutshell, no matter what Delhi has transformed into in past 100 gigantic years, Delhi will still continue to be what it really is from its core – compassionate & all-inclusive!

Online Shopping is Fun!

It's always a fun to try out newer things in life. From daring to choose a roller coaster ride to applying an unusual nail paint shade (like blue, black or green), surprise yourself everyday. One may experience the same feeling by switching from physical stores for shopping to online retail stores, where almost everything is available. You just need to be little careful and delve into the pleasure of ordering items at the comfort of your home. Do your little research if skeptical and try it out without any more delay. Why keep yourself away from excitement which you can reach out to right now?

Not only do these stores give out great discounts on MRP (as no storage cost), but they also provide good offers and deals (to stay competitive in the market). From being a multi-brand store to an easy to shop stop, it’s high time that you make the most exciting move of your life. It’s fun, believe us!

Sip the sweet life...

Complaints are irresistible. We simply love complaining about this and that. But rarely do we take out the time to admire, adore or appreciate a thing, deed or gesture. We miss out the small things and try looking at the bigger pleasures which never come to us, practically. Living in dream or aspiring for more is not at all a sin. But wasting the precious moments in desiring for unreachable dreams is actually a waste of what you have been gifted with.

There are people who love dreaming and boasting of distant aspirations caressed by them. Whenever in a group, these people never miss out on bragging about their desire for a water bed, a dream bungalow and a limousine car or even for an extravagant holiday in Switzerland. They complaint and grumble about what they own and what matters to them in reality. Constantly being unhappy about your life and your little treasures makes way for an unhealthy future for yourself. For, desiring for BIG is good but demeaning the LITTLE is bad.

A cup of tea by side of your dearest friend, a get-together with your relatives, a scooter that let you pass trough every small lane leading to your loved one’s house or a home with every corner reflecting togetherness  - are the real treasures of life.

Enjoy the little things in life… for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things!

Bring out the child in you... !!!!!!!

When was the last time you played? Or indulged in a fun act arousing child-like feeling within you?

As you get busy rushing through your life, you often miss out on things that truly leave you delighted. It’s time to get in touch with that inner child of yours. Revive those good old childhood days and relive them to the extreme. Here are some short but sweet tips to turn into a child all over again:

Play games

Sometimes all you need to do is to play games you though you were too ‘grown up’ for. It could be anything – from hide n seek, musical chairs, crocodile or even hopscotch! It’s the simplicity of these games where you will find immense pleasure. And the in-between mischief that happens in a game will add to your child-like behavior.

Watch your favorite cartoons

You will love to sit back and enjoy a rerun of the “Tom & Jerry” cartoons which you grew up with. With age, we get exposed to more complicated stories and characters. But nothing can beat the innocence and simplicity of your childhood favorites like Donald Duck or Talespin!

Meet School Friends

You might have lost all their contacts or even submerged the ones which you possess under some bookshelf. Its times to dig them out and have a chit-chat. Nothing triggers childhood memories better than those who were there with you while you were growing up.

Relive what you loved to do as a child

If given a thought, there are many things which we stopped doing entirely or discarded from our lives as years got added to our age. It could be your favorite ‘Superman’ comics lying in dust-driven racks or writing stories or drawing cartoons which you gave up just because you thought you’ve outgrown them. Get back to them, relive the times!

 Spend time with children

Children are best to leave you awed with their simplicity in thoughts ad unbound curiosity in minds. You will find a bit of yourself in every child, making you tickle from within. So don’t shoo away them from your side or run away from that bunch of neighbor’s naughty kid-gang. Join them and be a part of their fun-filled life!

RESTRICTIONS, RULES, REGULATIONS - Diminishing Democracy!

It’s rightly said, “One doesn’t feel stirred until it happens in the immediate neighborhood.”

It was easy reading the constraints on wearing jeans in a Kanpur college or learning about fatwa on M.F. Hussain or even knowing about tightened restrictions on Bloggers in China.  But it was only when Mr. Kabil Sibal wanted Facebook, Google & Yahoo contents to be monitored in India, when many got stirred with anger and anguish. It still wouldn’t have done much to your sensitivities, but this time it was about internet – something which is inseparable from our lives.

So from where it all started?

A New York Times report on Monday that said Sibal called executives about six weeks ago and showed them a Facebook page that maligned ruling Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi and told them it was "unacceptable". Pertaining to this, the government decided to take strict steps saying that “We’re very sensitive to criticism of the Gandhi family.”

One can imagine the extent to which Government can go, when last year there were moves to block the English translation of a Spanish novel about Sonia Gandhi's life.

Diminishing Democracy!

You can call it a mixed emotion of astonishment (to have heard such horrible news), helplessness (you can actually do nothing about it) and desperation (to make government realize their imprudent behavior). It’s either about ‘Diminishing Democracy’ or ‘Rising Revolution’.

Reactions from the brands itself –

Facebook in its reaction said it will cooperate in removing any content that violates its terms which are designed to keep material that is hateful, threatening, incites violence or contains nudity off the service.

Google said it will abide by local law and take any material if it violates its policies but asserted that it will not remove any content just because it is controversial.
Come what may, things are bound to settle within few days. We hope it doesn’t.
 Your Views are welcome.

Online Shopping Trend – bricks to get replaced soon!

In a country where majority of the population still lives in villages and earns by agricultural means, it’s interesting to watch online shopping rise tremendously. Retailers of all types are busy expanding their product range, adding in-store pickup, providing free shipping and experimenting with social media. It’s rather getting harder to tell pure play Internet retailers from the bricks and mortar shops with online portals, as all of them are reinventing how consumers like you will shop online in the future.

Based on the same strategy, retailers have upped their search advertising, and realized various upcoming trends as a part of their ready-to-tackle approach. Some of the trends that one will get to see in Indian Online Shopping are:

Trends in Indian Online Shopping:

· In the next one year, eight out of ten Indian consumers are expected to make online purchases

· Studies on a little more than a quarter users reveal that they spend 11% of their monthly shopping expenditure on procurements online

· When making an online purchase decision, 71 percent Indians trust recommendations from family; whereas recommendations from friends stand at 64 percent and online product reviews at 29 percent

· Almost 50% Indian consumers’ use and trust social media sites to help them make online purchase decisions

· Users rely heavily on online reviews and opinions when buying Consumer Electronics, software and other items (such as a car)

· More than four in ten Indians are likely to share (post a review/ Tweet) a negative product or service experience online than they were to share a positive one

· In the next 6 months or so, most buyers will purchase books (41%), airline tickets (40%), and electronic equipment such as TV, Cameras (36%) online

· The trend observed is that while shopping, most buyers ideally shop from websites that allow them to select products from many different stores [multi-brand stores]

With so many insights doing the rounds, online shopping is soon going to change the way Indians shop!

Meeting someone? Learn these 7 rules!

If you are planning to meet someone for the first time, you can rely on these 7 rules to turn the meeting successful (in any which way you want to).  It’s generally the first interaction that decides the future of your relationship with that person – no matter whether it’s purely business or a personal meet.

1.       No one loves late comers – The other person who has not met you earlier will not be interested in hearing to your excuses of being late. It’s also your first chance to throw the right impression.

2.       Be at Ease. Be Yourself. – If you are uncomfortable in the situation, the other person too will feel the same. Be calm and confident and make the other person feel at ease.

3.       Be Presentable – Don’t take your appearance lightly. Be presentable according to the occasion (business or personal). Clean & tidy clothes, a good shave, appropriate hair-do, etc, all play a significant role. Don’t ignore them.

4.       Maintain your Individuality – No matter how good you have prepared for the meeting, don’t forget to give it a touch of ‘your self’. Be what you really are (within the bounds of the meeting etiquettes), throwing the right impression at the other person.

5.       Spread Smile – A mild and warm smile is contagious. Maintain a happy face to keep the positivity alive during the meeting.

6.       Know Beforehand – It would be great if you can gather some essential information about the person you are going to meet. Learning about his/her hobbies, interests, etc, may help you carry out your conversation in an effective and fruitful manner.

7.       Be Attentive – Listening is the best you can do to someone. Conversations never turn productive until there’s a patient listener in you.  Hear to what the other person has to share as it’s exactly what you expect from other people.

Have a happy meeting & do share your own experience!

The power of ‘a cup of tea’!

Tea is a cup of life.  ~Author Unknown
Tea...is a religion of the art of life.  ~Okakura
Tea is liquid wisdom.  ~Anonymous
Tea to the English is really a picnic indoors.  ~Alice Walker
Each cup of tea represents an imaginary voyage.  ~Catherine Douzel
All these sayings/quotations say a lot about tea. From ancient to modern times, tea has been considered as the foremost drink to express absolute hospitality to your guests. For many of us, a cup of tea may simply appear as a brown-colored drink, strongly associated with the morning sun rays and the newspaper headlines. But let’s explore more of this undemanding daily drink.
From white tea, green tea, black tea to lemon tea…people have dig deeper to bring out different tastes out of tea leaves. Tea is also considered as the foremost item to be served to guests or even to strangers with whom you wish to open up your heart. The tea time is refreshing, comforting and a delightful interval that most of us wish to take between our busy schedules.
